How A Hot Tub Encounter Led Me To Cancel Culture And Why I Oppose It

In the winter of 2018, I went on a ski trip with a girlfriend to the frigid slopes of Mont St. Anne, north of Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. One evening we ventured out of the resort and visited a local hot spring with delightful pools of various temperatures to rest and relax weary bones.

Upon entering a hot tub, my girlfriend, whom we'll call Joni for the sake of the story, and I met a young man alone in the waters. Upon chatting further, the handsome guy, ten years our junior, is a ski instructor and part-time Professor of Economics at the University of Toronto. Joni and I were impressed with his accomplishments, and I found the man to be quite charming.

After some time, the conversation drifted to Jordan Peterson, an internationally famed and controversial Professor of Psychology at the University of Toronto and a figure the young man is acquainted with.

In early 2018, I had zero conception who Jordan Peterson was; clearly, my head had been buried in the sand. While Joni and the young professor spoke, I remained silent and listened as their discourse soured and escalated. My friend jumped on an ultra-feminist soapbox and…
