Like many Gen X’ers, I grew up enthralled with electronic, dance, and house music. Even now, at 45 years of age, I still appreciate a great track when I hear one. Lyrics, tone, and stylistic substance matter more to me now than ever before.

Music serves as a backdrop to our lives, capturing a snapshot in time. Like fragrance, when a song plays that capture a moment in our history, we are transported back to that time and place.

Yet, I am most intrigued when electronic music moves beyond entertainment and tells a deeper psychological story in a powerful, memorable way. Tracks that speak to the artist's mental health or state of being, music with a heightened sense of lyrical ingenuity allow us to share the musician’s experience.

The following ten curated tracks enlighten and elevate our psyche while injecting toe-tapping and head nodding. Each track includes a brief history of the song (if known), unique lyrics, and the details of my attachment to the piece.
